This makes the drug test more effective in avoiding the risks of false detection and reduces the acts of drug testing tampering.

How long the illegal drugs stay in a human system?

The time period for any drug to reside in a human system depends on many factors like age, weight, health, potency of the drug, quantity of the drug intake, frequency of usage, etc. All drugs stay up to 30 days in a system of chronic user. The following are some of the commonly used illicit drugs and the time they stay in a human system.

THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol/Marijuana)

Marijuana is also termed with other names like Bud, Blunt, Grass, Herb, Pot, Reefer, Sinsemilla, Smoke, and Weed. It can stay from 3 to 90 days in a human system when abused orally or through smoking. Traces of marijuana can be detected from 7 to 30 days in urine, two weeks in blood, and 90 days with hair.

Opiates

Opiates are available in the black market with names like Opium, China, Dreams, Dover’s powder, etc. Detection time of opiates ranges from 2 to 5 days. Opiates can be detected for up to 3 months through hair drug test and 6-12 hours in the blood or saliva drug test.

Methamphetamines

Methamphetamines or Meth is dealt with names like Crank, Crystal, Glass, Ice, Speed, etc. Meth can stay up to 2 to 4 days inside a human system. Traces of Meth can be found for up to 3 to 6 days in urine, 24 to 72 hours in blood, and up to 90 days with hair.

Amphetamines

Amphetamines are also dealt with names like Biphetamine, Black Beauties, Crosses, Dexedrine, Hearts, etc. Amphetamines can stay from 2 to 4 days in a human system. Traces of Amphetamines can be found from 1 to 3 days in urine, for around 12 hours in blood, and up to 90 days with hair.

Cocaine

Coke, Candy, Snow, Flakes, White Coat are some of the other names of Cocaine. Cocaine can stay from 2 to 4 days inside a human system. Traces of cocaine are found for up to 3 days in urine, from 1 to 2 days in blood, and up to about 90 days in hair.

Phencyclidine (PCP)

PCP is termed with names like Boat, Love boat, Angle dust, Hog, etc. Period of PCP staying inside a human system ranges from 7 to 14 days. It can be detected for up to 30 days in urine, 90 days in hair, and for around 2 to 4 days in blood.

Conducting drug test before or after the tenure of the drug inside a human system, obviously makes the results useless. However, chronic users are found positive more frequently in drug tests than others.

The primary objective is to maintain a workplace that is free from unnecessary and ugly scenarios arising from drug abuse.

High productivity is one of the goals of any corporations. By ensuring that all its employees are not hooked on illegal drugs, the performance of the company is geared toward success.

Of course, the success of the organization does not rely on having a drug-free working environment; however, drug abuse is a culprit that can affect the enterprise’s overall output.

Medical experts explained that people who use illegal drugs get high fast, making them feel powerful, and causing them to act fearlessly. Depending on the kind of illegal drug and the frequency of its use, these drugs can cause hallucinations and paranoia.

Now, without conducting drug testing, you are putting the safety and welfare of your company and its employees at higher risks. It could also damage your company’s reputation if managers already employed use drugs.

With employment drug screening, the company ensures that new hires are not into drug use. There are also corporations that initiate random drug tests on its existing employees to monitor and eliminate drug-abuse habits.

As drug screening becomes popular, some applicants may lie low in using drugs for the sake of passing drug tests, and resume their habits once they get hired. Hence, it is also necessary to conduct regular drug testing on all potential employees and existing employees.

Employment drug screening also creates a safer and drug-free working environment. It can reduce the conflict incidences involving employees who use illegal drugs. This is not to say that those who are involved in corporate brawls or verbal fights are using drugs.

Rather, statistics and medical evidence authenticate that people who are addicted to illegal drugs are quick to anger, vulnerable to physical violence, and an initiator of chaos. Mostly, drug users have frequent absences, low-productivity, utilization and cost of health benefits, higher insurance premiums and accidents.

Small and medium scale businesses can benefit more from initiating drug testing as drug users are more inclined to apply at their company. Just the thought of drug tests can scare away drug abusers. As a major determinant of employment, drug screening allows business owners to save time and effort by hiring the right individuals.

Since there are many types of substance abuse, it is important to specify which drug tests are necessary to administer to your employees and applicants. There are marijuana testing, cocaine drug tests, and many other drugs test that can be done.

Generally, companies follow a standard five-panel test, which is composed of Marijuana, Cocaine, PCP and Amphetamine. There is also a 10-panel test to include prescription substances that can be obtained legally, but which can also be addictive and abused. Only few companies use this type of drug testing.

Usually, all drug substances linger in our system between 2 and 4 days. In conducting the drug tests among regular drug users, the results become available in 14 days or even more. If the drug testing is done with hair, the substance can be detected for a period of 3 months.

According to the study of “Teen drug use and attitudes”, it confirms that Generation Rx has arrived, as an alarming number of today’s teenagers are more likely to have abused Rx and OTC medications than a variety of illegal drugs like Ecstasy, Cocaine, Crack and Meth.

There is dramatic increase in the teenagers who are abusing prescribed drugs. This is Drug Misuse. Drug misuse means, use of any drug (legal or illegal) for a medical or recreational purpose when other alternatives are available, practical or warranted, or when drug use endangers either the user or others with whom he or she may interact.

Nearly one in five teens (19 percent or 4.5 million) report abusing prescription medications to get high and one in 10 (10 percent or 2.4 million) report abusing cough medicine to get high.

Based on the Partnership Attitude Tracking Study (PATS) survey:

·	Nearly one in five (19 percent or 4.5 million) teens has tried prescription medication (pain relievers such as Vicodin and OxyContin; stimulants like Ritalin and Adderall) to get high.

·	One in 10 (10 percent or 2.4 million) teens report abusing cough medicine to get high.

·	Abuse of Rx and OTC medications is on par or higher than the abuse of illegal drugs such as Ecstasy (8 percent), cocaine/crack (10 percent), methamphetamine (8 percent) and heroin (5 percent).

According to the data, an alarming number of teens have a false sense of security about the safety of abusing Rx and OTC medications:

·	Two in five teens (40 percent or 9.4 million) agree that Rx medicines, even if they are not prescribed by a doctor, are much safer to use than illegal drugs.

·	Nearly one-third of teens (31 percent or 7.3 million) believe there is nothing wrong with using Rx medicines without a prescription once in a while.

·	Nearly three out of 10 teens (29 percent or 6.8 million) believe prescription pain relievers even if not prescribed by a doctor are not addictive.

·	More than half of teens (55 percent or 13 million) do not agree strongly that using cough medicines to get high is risky.

To reduce this abusive trend, educating the teenagers and their parents is very important. Kids who report learning a lot about the risks of abuse from their parents are up to 50 percent less likely to use drugs as those who do not. Unfortunately, most parents are either unaware or in denial about their kids vulnerability and exposure to the intentional abuse of prescribed medicines.

So it is a preventive act to encourage parents to educate themselves about the medications kids are abusing, communicate with their kids about the difference between good medicine and bad behavior and to safeguard their own medications – and ask their friends to do the same.

In addition to press outreach and public relations efforts, components of the campaign will include highlighting the risk of intentional abuse to Prescribed medicines on Television, Radio, Magazine and Newspaper is also helpful in reducing drug misuse.

Drug testing is a way of assessing type and amount of legal or illegal drugs taken by a person. It is a self or laboratory process which looks for evidence of drug consumption by analyzing blood, hair, sweat, saliva or urinal samples.

Tips for Parents :

Drugs among teenagers have been on the rise for some time now and have been a matter of concern to parents, family, local authorities and friends. The problem is much worse in the western countries, especially the US where teenage drug and alcohol abuse statistics show that the more and more children are falling victims to it. According to an annual survey of U.S. youth, three-fourths of 12th graders, more than two-thirds of 10th graders, and about two in every five 8th graders have consumed alcohol. How can one be sure if a teenager is on drugs? That one may be victims’ parent, a concerned school official or someone associated with a drug rehab center. Most of the children and young people are uncertain about the law concerning to drugs and the possible consequences for them in their future. If a child is caught in possession of a controlled drug they are bound to be committed a criminal offence and that will be documented by the police and also not permitted from taking up certain jobs or professions, and visiting other countries.

Tips for Employers :

Employers need consent from staff for drug testing in the workplace. Any employer will be keen to keep drug misuse away from the workplace. As well as causing ill health, drug misuse increases the chances of accidents at work and interferes with how much work is done. Because of the safety risks from drug misuse, workplace is recommended to have a policy on this matter. The policy could be drawn up between employee and employer or employee health and safety representatives. Employer has legal responsibilities to look after employee’s health and safety as far as reasonably possible and must assess any possible risks. However, there are some limits on what an employer can do to check on an employee’s activities.

Teen drug and alcohol drug abuse could possibly happen in any home or school. If you think that the police will only arrest someone who’s caught dealing drugs that is not true. Even using drugs for personal use may land a person in trouble and could lead to a large fine or time in prison.
